I've added my SAS drives into top (I had to move the disk controller to a 16x slot because it's an 8x card and doesn't look like it works at all in a narrower slot). I've also racked that Aruba S2500-48T switch. It's not too loud once it's completed its initial boot. I also switched over to using a patch panel. It's sure pretty, even though it is in no way better 😀
I've manipulated CRUSH maps to try and force primaries onto the SAS disks (which really are much better than the random SATA disks I've generally been using). idk if the HBA makes a difference too -- technically there's a second port on this HBA and I could move the SATA drive left in top over to that? Increasingly the only reason to keep bottom in the rack is redundancy and quorum.
Big technical milestone shipping something at work (10044 for my future self looking back at this). It's good. It immediately had some fallout, but still -- can't make an omelette etc.

👆Future-me will want to know what kind of custom CRUSH map rule I added to prioritize my SAS disks for the Ceph primary, while still spilling over to my SATA disks for everything else. (This map is called risky because the failure domain is an osd and not a host. This is for my homelab, so I am okay with this, and I have backups.)
I rebuilt my Opinel #8 knife and I'm very happy with it. I used by lathe's collet spindle for (I think) the first time. I brought some brass down to diameter -- obviously brass is easy, but I'm still very happy with the result. Also brass looks great, although this particular part is the pivot of the knife so it's only visible when it's disassembled. I'll know, however.
Picked up the third "big" Colocatiares server today. Exciting times. It's laden with disks, although they are all SATA. Also the entire second PCI expansion is missing, but that's life with second-hand goods.
