Well the serial port experiment was mostly a success -- if there's a legacy or PCI/PCIe serial port in the console= kernel command line then you can issue BREAK and then b to force a reboot. It makes me think a lot of my obsession with KVM / graphical console could actually be serial console? I wonder how hard setting up all the redirection for libvirt based VMs to serial-like ports is?
PD and I spent Monday at the datacentre installing a new customer's kit and generally tidying up (getting his personal machine working and getting the PDUs talking to the network).
I installed a front brake on my bike -- not exactly technical work, but not not technical work. This is on the yellow single-speed that I've been favouring. I've decided that one brake + hopes/prayers isn't quite enough stopping power.
I've started using the Helix editor -- kind of similar to the Neovim set up I've moved towards in terms of leaning into language servers and tree sitter. It has those things natively and ships with a lot of themes and ... well ... that's about all that I actually customize on Neovim, along with fzf (which it emulates). Also it's very fast. It's hard to break nearly 30 years of muscle memory though. On the positive side -- it makes programming kind of fun to not rely on my muscle memory and to have a bit of novelty?
