2026–W12 #
A week off. I ended up taking some sugar at the weekend because I had crashed so hard. I'm still trying to keep to the spirit of lent despite having broken my fast technically.
My Ceph cluster in my house has been stable (ish) for some time. It's time to turn it off -- it's a lot of hardware to keep running for just homelab purposes, so it's time to consolidate it down to fewer machines and less storage. That leaves me "over-disked" but I'm sure I'll find some use for a bunch of enterprise SAS drives and some sticks of NVMe.
I'm using canoe (with river) on an Arch install on one of my liberated Chromebooks. I'm enjoying it. It's very small. Boots very quickly. I can have a pretty decent Linux experience on the tiny eMMC on the Chromebook- more than I think I'd get out of Debian, for example.
Also switched from Firefox ESR to the newest Firefox and switched to native vertical tables (no Sideberry). It's obviously not as good but with tab groups it's 90% of the way for me and I'd rather use a native solution than an extension anyway. Good work, Mozillians.
Got my bike up from the basement and swapped out the front tire for a new one. It's only a 32 up from a 28, though. That's about the biggest I can fit on my 16mm inner-rim width wheels, though. I've started shopping for new wheels but at some point a whole different bike makes sense- financially- as this is a rat bike and putting $300 of wheels on it would basically double its value. Also getting anything wider than 16mm inside (20mm outside) and still fitting in 120mm (and freewheel) -- well that's a unicorn, I think.
