2026–W16 #
The majority of my energy (technical and otherwise) has gone into an intensive work-week. Many months of effort are about to go to staging, ahead of going live. Exciting stuff.
I have my little homelab server with the Alpine, NetBSD and OmniOS machines on it, with NVMe PCIe devices passed through -- but I've not done much with them. I got vesta (the Colocataires Admin Rails app) sort-of working on OmniOS -- it was a bear to get YAML support working correctly, mostly around getting the extconf.rb stuff to look in the right places for libraries.
I replaced the keycaps on my OG Keychron K2 keyboard and I like them. As always: it's a little like having a whole new board. I'm using it, along with a wired USB mouse, on the emotional-support Chromebook (running Alpine) as well as my actual Framework.
My Framework continues to have GPU-related crashes which are very frustrating. Happened on a call this week! There is a FW announcement coming soon and whatever it is, I hope it's either a new mainboard that I want, or a new mainboard that I don't want but which reduces demand (or price) of the AMD-equivalent board to what I have now. Gotta do something :/
I know this isn't really Framework's fault: this Xe GPU is built into the Ultra 5 125H / Meteor Lake chipset. It's basically Intel's fault, but makes me regret choosing this particular mainboard. Luckily this is something that I can fix without buying a whole new laptop 😀
